BioCampus Investor Day strengthens the Life Sciences ecosystem in the Upper Rhine region
The first BioCampus Upper Rhine Investor Day in Basel brought together more than 300 participants from Switzerland, Germany, and France. Start-ups, investors, companies, universities, and representatives of public institutions used the event to strengthen exchange within the trinational Life Sciences ecosystem and to promote innovation in early stages of development.
Platform for exchange and funding
More than 60 start-ups from the fields of biotechnology, medical technology, and digital health presented their projects. Over 20 investors took part, complemented by more than 50 one-on-one meetings between start-ups and potential investors or partners. The aim of the format is to more closely connect research, entrepreneurship, and financing in order to accelerate the development of innovative projects.
The Upper Rhine region offers particularly favorable conditions for this. A high density of universities, university hospitals, research institutes, and internationally active companies creates an environment that combines scientific excellence with clinical validation and entrepreneurial experience.
Pitch competition and insights from practice
One highlight of the event was the start-up pitch competition. First place went to NanoZymeX, followed by SPARTHA Medical and abbmira therapeutics.
In a fireside chat, young talents from start-ups discussed their experiences in building life sciences companies from academic environments and the challenges of translating scientific discoveries into marketable applications.
Focus on trinational collaboration
Panel discussions with representatives from the University of Strasbourg, the University Medical Center Freiburg, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and the University of Basel focused on the importance of structured collaboration in the Upper Rhine region. Topics included clinical validation, talent mobility, and the promotion of innovation across national borders.
Another discussion with representatives from the pharmaceutical companies Roche and Novartis explored opportunities for cooperation between start-ups and established industry partners.
BioCampus Upper Rhine is a strategic platform designed to bring together the key innovation actors from the Eucor universities and their partners in the Life Sciences sector in the Upper Rhine region.
